The Automotive Training Managers Council will host an open discussion with the career and technical education instructors attending the ASE Industry Education Alliance Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. The session is scheduled as a breakfast meeting on July 24, 2017 beginning at 6:30 am, prior to the start of the conference. All with an interest are welcome to attend. The purpose of the discussion is to address disconnects between the education system and industry that form roadblocks for students trying to make the transition from school to the workplace. During the discussion each group hopes to learn from the other on topics such as: improving recruitment by improving the image of the industry; the high cost of entering the industry; obtaining internships; making students and their parents aware of the variety of opportunities in the industry; realistic salary expectations; and help with instructor education. Misconceptions seem to be present in both the industry and education, and ATMC members want to work to resolve them.
Industry representatives who would like to attend just the round-table discussion are welcome to do so without registering for the conference.
